The ART8 will use Gropius quote “what are seen as luxuries today will be common in the future”. The teaching for this design is a contradiction of the first option, that of luxury and that the constant improvement of human existence is inevitable. Opulent, luxuries and grotesque; this building will be on three floors, have two entrances, a courtyard, swimming pool with a retractable roof, terraces and balcony’s. The house will also have an industrial feel with low profile pitched roofs and steel detailing, the posts and beams will be painted black and the walls will be a light grey. Stone flooring throughout the ground floor and courtyard will break down the threshold between outside and in.

An H shaped circulation space with a central void on the first floor is positioned inside a glazed atrium. To the west will be an outdoor/indoor dining area and the North part of the ground floor will be an open plan living area with large sliding glass doors. To the South East of the property will be a Gym accessed from across the courtyard. To the North side of the courtyard is covered space for two cars. The plan of the house reflects Gropius’s view that a building should not be understood if only viewed from one angle”
